The Forbes Collection, Lyon and Turnbull, Edinburgh, 1st November

After 40 years of ownership, the American publishing dynasty the Forbes family is selling Old Battersea House in London along with the magnificent world-famous Victorian art collection it contains.

Paintings feature heavily along with 18th and 19th century furniture but it's the Queen Victoria memorabilia we're most interested in. Not only is there the chance to acquire portraits of the monarch, but even some of her royal hosiery - silk stockings (£500-£800), bloomers (£2,000-£3,000), monogrammed kid gloves (£300-£500) and her lace nightgown (£800-£1,200).
Lots also include Edith Grace Wheatley’s wonderful coronation portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip (£12,000-£18,000) and works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Sir John Everett Millais.
