The Olympic Memorabilia Sale, Graham Budd Auctions in association with Sotheby's, London, 24th July
If the London Olympics figure large in your summer timetable, put an extra date in your diary. Graham Budd Auctions (in association with Sotheby's) is holding a one-off sale of Olympic memorabilia on 24th July at Sotheby's in London. Around 300-400 lots will be offered with a wide range of estimates.
About £40-£60 will secure the programmes for the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2008 Bejing Games, while silk headscarves from the 1948 London Games carry estimates of £80-£120 each. A torch from the same year has been consigned by the man who carried it, along with all the original paperwork from the organising committee (estimate £2,500-£3,500).
Then there is the gold medal won by 37-year-old boxer Richard Gunn at the London games of 1908 (estimate £6,000-£8,000). He still holds the record as the oldest athlete to win Olympic boxing gold. And the spiked shoe thrown into a crowd of British supporters by Johnathan Edwards after he won gold in the triple jump in Sydney 2000 is being offered at £1,500-£2,500 by the lucky person who caught it.
