Printed Books, Maps & Fans, Dominic Winter Book Auctions, Cirencester, 21st September
We're all of a flutter over a collection of beautiful 1790s paper fans coming up for sale this week - it's making us imagine fanning ourselves in warmer climes.
We're especially fond of this example, pictured, which features the rules of card games divided by swags and bows (£700-£1,000). Decorations on other fans include riddles and jokes, conundrums, country dances and gods and goddesses.
Also going under the hammer is a set of pocket maps of the world, c1792, which are expected to fetch £1,000-£1,500 and many colourful prints featuring botany and natural history, including a collection of late 19th-century poultry prints (£120-£130).
