B2B Events' bi-monthly bazaar offers a great mix of antique and vintage homewares, fashions and unusual finds in the inspirational setting of the former Bird's Custard factory.

Steeped in industrial history, The Custard Factory is about to celebrate its 21st year as a hub for local creativity, housing an exciting mix of businesses including digital media companies, vintage salons, second-hand record stores, picture framers and stylish homeware outlets.

Hannah Johnson and Nat Selby are regular visitors to this event and Nat, who picked up this fabulous 1950s bread bin, loves shopping here for her eclectic home.

Homes & Antiques readers Paula and Glenn Handforth, of nearby Uttoxeter, were at the event in search of inspiration for their detached 1875 home. ‘We have already renovated and decorated it once but we feel like a change. We want to create a retro 1950s feel and are looking for mustards, greys and statement pieces. This colourful tin will find its place somewhere I’m sure,’ said Paula.

Paul Davies from Burton upon Trent was also looking for items for his home. ‘We have a lot of antiques but we like to mix them with vintage and new pieces that catch our eye,’ he said. This beautifully battered old trunk is destined for the bedroom and will stay exactly as it was found.

We’re all for old trunks, suitcases, crates and tins becoming part of home storage and, as illustrated here, a stack of them makes a great interiors feature. For more bright ideas, take a look the lovely Toast trunks in our March news pages.

Despite the high winds the sky was bright. A few outside traders braved the elements, setting up their wares to a graffiti backdrop - something you’ll find adorning much of the richly diverse architecture at The Custard Factory.

Jenny Schrag, who collects and sells vibrant pieces from the 1930s-60s, was selling this intriguing stationery set embossed with the words ‘Waldorf Club’. Nothing is known about its history but I was left imagining it being from the room of some grand hotel or gentlemen’s club during the 1950s...

Julie Pointer was all geared up for Valentine’s Day with her pretty display of pinks and love tokens, including this US military souvenir cushion cover. ‘They were sent back home by troops posted around the country’s bases. I’ve had ones with touching little poems for wives, mothers, sisters and sweethearts,’ said Julie, who started her hobby business after a lifelong interest in collecting decorative vintage.

Do come and see H&A at a fair near you for great magazine and subscription offers as well as lots of other tabletop treats. This is where you’ll find our team throughout the next few weeks...
