Wine lecture with Antiques Roadshow expert Andy McConnell

Roadshow expert Andy McConnell explains all about the history of wine on an antiques getaway

Wine has flowed throughout history, with everyone from the ancient Greeks to the team at H&A partaking of the odd glass (though not in work hours, obviously). So what better way to learn about how it has been enjoyed over the last 10,000 years than with a talk by Roadshow glass expert Andy McConnell?

The lecture, on vino and the vessels used for drinking it, is part of an antiques getaway hosted by The Place at the Beach hotel in Camber, East Sussex. Running from 17th-18th March, it also includes a two-night stay, a tour around nearby Rye’s antiques shops and a three-course dinner.

Hi! Andy, I'd like to send you some photos of a wine bottle I purchased (complete with the wine) at a liqour store around the Houston, TX area (maybe Galveston) back in 1975 - 1980. It takes a cork in the top, is almost a full yardstick tall (33 inches), is made of light green glass shaped like a volumtuous woman (princess), and cost me about $20.00! The company made a matching bottle of a prince during the same promotion. I didn't have enough money to buy this one (him) before they were sold out! Since I wasn't much of a wine drinker back then, I kept it (her) in the closet for several years. . .This is why I call her "My Closet Queen"! When I finally opened it to pass the contents around to my friends at the campground, they said "It tastes like vinegar." If you can explain to me how to get the pictures from my hard drive to yours, I'd be glad to send them to you! Your friend, CBKitten
