Not sure what to buy at this summer's antiques fairs? Take your lead from John Lewis' autumn trend preview
Spring has not yet sprung, and we're yet to reach Easter but here in the world of magazines we've already got an eye on autumn/winter 2014.
To get an idea of what's in store, our stylist, Kiera, headed along to the trend preview at John Lewis
to see what the high street favourite has planned for the colder months.
Although not available in store till September, the ranges are a good indicator of what to look out for when you're rummaging at fairs over the summer. When it comes to making your house cosy for autumn, you'll be right on the money.
To make it easy, John Lewis mapped out their key trends into three ranges:
A grown-up refresh of the Scandinavian look, the Copenhagen collection (pictured top and below) features the typical palette of muted greys, blacks and mid-century shapes but with splashes of blues, pinks and yellows. My personal favourite is the sleek Sixties influenced 'Bromley' table lamp pictured below (£150).
Above: 'Why' wood coffee table, £175; marble hexagonal candle plate, £25; marble tear drop, £8; marble candle holder, from £10; 'Loki' medium sofa, £1,500; 'Caro' sideboard, £550; photographic floral stripe cushion, £30; 'Listrado' rug, from £80.
'Croft' is John Lewis' take on the very traditional country look but with some very 'now' twists. Artisanal in look, there are some earthy, tactile pieces such as the 'Atelier' dining table (£599, pictured below). This is very much an update on the rustic trend with some 'cutting edge' products thrown in, like the 'Ashby' ceiling light (£130). In short, a strong 'old meets new' look.
Above: 'Lomond' larder £2250; 'Ashby' carved ceiling light, £130; 'Atelier' dining table, £599; 'Cecile' chair, £75; 'Croft' jug, from £15; large bread bin, £28; tea, sugar and coffee tins, £10 each; 'Embroidered diamonds' wallpaper in 'Putty', £22 per roll.
The already-existing 'House' range is looking great and continues to expand. For A/W '14, they've added this laminate table, which gives a retro nod to the collection. Key colours for this look are red and yellow, with geometric patterned textiles for a contemporary look. We've seen a lot of geometric designs - chevrons, stripes and squares - emerging for 2014. I predict this to be a key trend going forward...
Above: 'Suzy' chair, £69; 'Suzy' drop-leaf dining table, £150; 'Ziggy' silicone pendant, £35; placemats, £6 each.
