Antiques for Everyone comes to London

Antiques for Everyone's new art, antiques and interiors fair opens in London this month

Get ready London. Antiques for Everyone will open the doors to its first fair in the capital, AFE London Art Antiques Interiors Fair, on 13th January. The team behind the 30-year-old fair, which runs twice a year at Birmingham's NEC, will welcome 120 dealers specialising in everything from 18th-century ceramics to swish 20th-century design to east London's largest exhibition space, the ExCel.

The organisers expect over 30,000 pieces to be on offer and with prices starting from £20, it's just as likely that you could spot a bargain as much as find an investment. Look out in particular for the array of art deco finds around the fair – a period of design that has inspired many a recent interiors collection and looks set to carry on as a trend into the new year. There will also be some more unusual highlights including a set of Matisse lithographs, an elegant oak chair carved by a prisoner of war during the Boer War, and a near life size porcelain sculpture of Mao Tse Tung.

For those adventuring into antiques for the first time, heading to an Antiques for Everyone fair is a good way to get your eye in and AFE London Art Antiques Interiors Fair will be no exception. Size is one thing, but the fair also vets all the dealers who show and has a number of expert speakers on hand to offer buying and collecting advice. Regular H&A contributors Mark Hill and Judith Miller will both be making an appearance at January's London fair.

Asked why there is a burgeoning interest in antiques at present, Mark Hill replies: 'Antiques and vintage have real value - value for money, value for the environment, and value for our souls in terms of the visual feasts and unique stories that they give us.'

The show will be the first major antiques fair of 2017 – good reason to pop along and see if there's something to refresh your home with for the new year. And, the beauty of it being hosted at the ExCel is that you're just one direct tube ride away from the vintage wares at Spitalfields Market, so you can easily make a weekend of it!

AfE London Art Antiques Interiors Fair will run from 13th January to 15th January in halls 20-22 at ExCel London, Royal Victoria Dock, 1 Western Gateway, London E16 1XL. For more information visit
