Run by mother and daughter team Alice and Linda Corby (pictured, centre and right), Bows & Braces Vintage Fair offers a jolly mix of traders selling everything from clothing and handbags to rolling-pins and textiles and many other great finds in between.

The fair currently takes place four times a year in Lymington’s Masonic Hall but I have it on good authority that there are exciting plans for expansion in 2014. You’ll find regular trader Ann Gosney (left) of Tilly Filou Collectables setting up shop with her colourful wares at next year’s fairs.

Andrew and Deborah Prynne from nearby Bournemouth were picking up Christmas gifts for their eldest daughter who is setting up her first home. They bought this classic Argyle Domestic Ware enamel milk pan and a wooden rolling pin from curios trader, The Clubhouse, who had the stall next to me.

Student Nancy Weiler and budding textile designer Jessica Rayment were looking for warming treats and inspiration. Nancy bought this very glam fur from Classic Vault while Jessica took notes on vintage fabrics for a new design she is working on.

Lou Shirland happily stumbled across the fair and ended up making a healthy dent in her present shopping list. As a lover of authentic vintage, Lou was delighted to find these original 1960s Christmas cards for sale on the H&A stand.

Singing due Scarlet Swing entertained the troops by pulling out some cracking renditions of all-time classics such as 'Silent Night' and 'White Christmas'.

Fair regular Nicola Portsmouth from nearby Fordingbridge has a particular fondness for fashion from the 1940s and 1950s. ‘I just love the nostalgia and the clothes from that time seem to fit my figure so much better than modern clothes,’ she said, as she invested in this sleek black crepe dress and a red glass-bead necklace to finish off the look.

Jill Hunt (left) of Pick & Mix Vintage was trading at the fair but is also co-organiser of a fair I’ve just booked for Saturday 15th February, Roxy Vintage & Handmade Fair in Cheddar. It is set to be a fabulous event and with the nearby Roxy Cinema in Axbridge showing vintage films all day it will be a proper jaunt! Jill was eyeing up this 1970s dress fabric on Sue Prowse’s stand, Le Shed.
