Village Vintage organisers Lucy Haywood and Darcy Shepherd did a sterling job of making sure their fair went ahead despite the threat of very heavy rain. For most of the day we enjoyed dry skies and visitors come from far and wide to enjoy the delightful setting. Professional beekeeper Cheryl Steens (centre), from New Zealand, had rescheduled her business trip so that she could take in the fair and commented ‘I love British magazines, especially H&A and Gardens Illustrated and it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to be on their home turf to do some shopping!’.

Amy Dean runs a fabulous sounding British inspired tea shop in San Francisco called Crown & Crumpet and was hunting for tea pots and crockery. Amy and her English husband, Christopher, also run Brit-n-Tea Tours which brings Americans to the UK for a unique experience: ‘For 10 days they take in some of the finest vintage and antique shopping, some of the UK’s best tea shops, historical sights and vintage inspired crafting, they adore it,’ said Amy.

Next to me was Caroline Zoob’s gorgeous stand with its delicate French glassware, zinc buckets, natural soaps, exquisite embroidery and vintage china. Caroline told me about the new book she is working on, The Hand Stitched Home’, due out in spring 2013. ‘The book will be full of inspiring ideas for using embroidery around the home’ says Caroline.

I had the pleasure of chatting to two Homes & Antiques readers, friends Patsy Groves and Irene Burns, who popped by to tell me how much they love the magazine. Patsy took out a subscription and said, ‘I can’t believe I haven’t subscribed before now, I’m going to love it coming through the door every month’.

It was interesting to visit the Nicole Phillips Vintage & Art stand, Nicole told me that she has combined her love of vintage with her art background and describes herself as 'an artist and ceramic up-cycler'.
Tilly Rose Vintage’s display caught my eye with its lovely painted furniture, most of which was snapped up quickly. Friends Justine Rickard and Natasha Willie decided to set up in business together to start selling off their ever-growing collection of decorative vintage items and currently trade at the recently opened Miss Mabel’s Magnificent Emporium in nearby Burgess Hill.

It really was a vintage shoppers paradise and if you are in Sussex during the summer months then pay a visit to the sister event, Sussex Country Brocante, run by Love Lane Vintage, in Wisborough Green Village Hall - 19th July, 16th August & 6th September.
