An abundance of glorious textiles and stitching ideas at a much-loved Cotswolds fair
The Original Vintage & Handmade Textiles and Fashion Fair offers a delightful mix of pretty clothing, tweed jackets, home textiles, wool blankets, lace, buttons, trimmings and lovingly handmade goods. Homemaker Emma Bright bought this needlepoint cushion from co-organiser Jayne Soule for just £5. ‘It will go really well with the colour scheme in my home and it's lovely that Jayne actually knows the person who made it,' she said.
Nicola Grellier, one half of makers kit company Mad In England, is helping keep needlepoint alive by offering these colourful kits featuring her own contemporary designs.
I met maker Gil Fox and friends Sally Harper and Ella Kelly in the summer at The Cotswold Vintage Fair so it was lovely to catch up with them again. Having travelled from Worcester and Manchester, they were enjoying some quality time together and a spot of shopping. This little red vanity case was a great find.
On closer inspection, we noticed a small Harrods label stapled to the corner, with the date '21/10/75' handwritten on it. Most likely originally bought as a kit, it has ended up years later as an unfinished project that’s quite charming.
Another project in need of some attention was this pouffe that we made up for our patchwork feature earlier in the year. It just needs tidying up at the back and Fiona Barber told me it would go nicely in her cosy living room: ‘I’ve just started re-upholstering and making cushions so this will be perfect as a starter project.'
Members of the Rangeworthy W.I were serving up good old-fashioned pots of tea and delicious homemade cakes to raise money for a kitchen refurbishment in their village hall. The W.I, H&A and lots of lovely traders will be back again for The Vintage & Handmade Christmas Fair on December 7th, from 10am - 3pm.
Do come and visit H&A at a fair near you to buy great homewares, textiles, magazines and subscriptions. Here’s where we’ll be during the coming weeks.
