Country House Vintage holds events in period properties in North Devon and on Sunday 4th November had the run of the National Trust's Arlington Court, a Regency property formerly owned by the Chichester family.

The house itself has an air of opulence about it and provided the most fabulous backdrop for this vintage fair. ‘We believe historical buildings show vintage off to its very best,' said organisers Alison Brookes and Annaliitta Stretch.

Alison has an extensive collection of vintage dresses, which she displayed around the house during the fair. Miss Chichester’s bedroom played host to this gorgeous pale green 1930s silk dress trimmed with ecru lace.

Antique costume and textile dealer Lizzie Drake, who runs Old Fashioned Stuff, looked very at home in her decorative surroundings. Lizzie’s stand was full of curious bits and pieces, most notably these World War II children's boots with wooden soles, which she picked up in Normandy, France.

Every last corner of the historic house was filled with goodies, dealer Liz Van Hasselt’s stock fitting into the tapestry room beautifully.

I was manning the Homes & Antiques stand in the spacious morning room, where I was able to greet visitors and readers. Jan Read from nearby Ashmansworthy was delighted to find me selling a quilt that had featured in our October issue - and she promptly snapped it up.

Next to me was Michele Antiques with a lovely mix of French and decorative antiques and interior accessories.
If all that wasn’t enough, Arlington Court also has a wonderful selection of attractions including a carriage museum, working stables, gardens and parkland - and one of the world’s finest collections of Napoleonic prisoner-of-war model ships.

Country House Vintage's next event is at South Molton Assembly Rooms on Saturday 8th December.

Homes & Antiques will be at the following fairs in November:

Thursday 15th November, 10am-4pm: Vintage Christmas Boutique at Woburn Abbey, Woburn Park, Bedfordshire

Sunday 18th November, 11am-5pm: Crikey! Christmas is Coming, Thistle Hotel, Exeter, Devon

Sunday 25th November, 9.30am-4pm: Bath Vintage & Antiques Christmas Market, Green Park Station, Bath
