H&A enjoys a jolly day at Chichester's finest monthly vintage event
Vintage & Very Nice Market Bazaar in Chichester's stately Assembly Rooms boasts a great roster of traders that include sellers of decorative homewares, vintage kitchenalia, gentlemen's tweeds, ladies' fashions and handmade treats. It's a convivial affair and host Daryl Bowen not only runs the event but also makes the irresistibly warming soups and tasty cakes sold at the on-site vintage tea shop.
Daryl took a shine to this adorable 1930s-style powder blue trike on Penny Soden-Bridger's stand but alas it was just too small for him!
Lin Bishop of nearby Batchmere was at the fair to pick up bits for her 1934 cottage. She was very successful at the Hebe Brown stall, where she found a new teapot and cosy as well as snapping up some bark cloth cushion covers from H&A. 'My home is period from floor to ceiling, including original wallpapers. I also have a shepherd's hut in the garden, which is vintage heaven,' she said.
Another person to hit the jackpot on the H&A stand was Kirsty Ridout of Splendid Vintage who bought The Splendid Book for Girls to start off a 'splendid' themed collection.
Local homemaker Vicky Rowlands found this printer's tray at Number Twelve Interiors, which was trading next to me. 'I need something to organise all the small but important things in life and this will be perfect,' she said.
H&A reader Charlotte Angliss and her partner Dan Holmes, who met at university in Chichester, were buying vintage pieces for their wedding in May. They added a few more mismatched cups to their growing collection and bought this handmade bunting from Ricie's Wardrobe.
Good friends and business partners Jayne Bayliss and Kate Brigden of Brigden & Bayliss travelled to trade at the event from Lewes in East Sussex, where they have a delightful shop that stocks one-off vintage homewares, clothing and gifts as well as makers' bits and pieces. The girls also run Vintage Sussex, the go-to website for vintage happenings in the area.
It was a great day with something for everyone, including some cosy cashmere. Perfect.
