Four day props auction extravaganza

Huge collection of props to go on sale starting this weekend

Four day props auction extravaganza

If you, like us, have been addicted to Downton Abbey, a forthcoming auction could be your chance to get a real piece of the action.  Props used in the hit series and other film and TV classics such as Poirot, Cranford, Mr Selfridge, The Iron Lady and Pirates of the Caribbean are going under the hammer in four day-long auctions at High Road Auctions, Hammersmith Town Hall, London, starting on Sunday.

The props, ranging from 18th and 19th century paintings and contemporary limited edition proofs to advertising memorabilia, furniture and ceramics were originally bought by Hazel Peiser, who set up the Pictures Props Company Ltd in 1977. Over the years, she amassed around 20,000 items, mostly bought at auction houses and shops both in the UK and abroad.

Now, just under 4,000 items from her collection are up for auction, divided into four themed sales: The Gentleman's Study: 18th & 19th Century Paintings & Prints including landscapes and marine (on Sunday 7th July), Vintage Design: Posters & Advertising (Tuesday 9th), City Living: Contemporary Paintings & Prints (Thursday 11th) and The Country Home: 18th & 19th Century Painting & Prints including portraits (Sunday 14th).

All the items are offered without reserve and estimates start at just £10 – not much to pay for a piece of TV history!
