Glamourous new 1950s drama series set to be a hit

Lovers of mid-century furniture and Fifties fashion brace yourselves - here comes another period drama series, this time set in a broadcast newsroom in 1950s London.

Hailed as the British Mad Men, The Hour focuses on the lives of Bel, Freddie and Hector, who are working on an ambitious new current affairs programme at the BBC. As the series unfolds, we see the intense rivalry and ruthless sexual politics that were bubbling away under polite social facades.

Eve Stewart, The Hour's production designer, who has worked on The King's Speech and Upstairs Downstairs, drew inspiration from copies of Radio Times from the period along with a documentary about the BBC's Lime Grove Studios for the set.

The first of six hour-long episodes is on Tuesday 19th July at 9pm on BBC Two
