Britain’s top crafters gather at Kirstie’s Handmade Fair

Our favourite crafting personality, Kirstie Allsopp, opens her first fair today

Hampton Court will be busy with stichers, paper cutters, sugar-crafters, even pompom makers as Kirstie Allsopp opens her first Handmade Fair today (19th September).

‘It will be an event with learning and making at its core,’ says Kirstie, who has gathered together some of Britain’s most eminent crafters to teach workshops and give talks. Among those attending will be Kaffe Fassett, Cath Kidston, Sue Timney and Annie Sloan (who we interview in our November issue, out on 2nd October).

Kirstie has already promoted the fair through an ingenious pompom stunt called ‘World Pomination’ on the Thames. It marked the beginning of her world record attempt for the longest pompom chain, which is set to continue at the fair.

For bespoke crafts – and the chance to see the experts at work as well as buy their pieces (Christmas shopping ahoy!) - this will be a highlight of the fairs calendar.

The Handmade Fair is on at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey, KT8 9AU, from 19th September to 21st September. Tickets, £29. 0207 244 3184; thehandmadefair.com
