For the love of dog
Check out these pooch pin-ups who help their owners sniff out a bargain at vintage and antiques fairs
Here at H&A we love looking out for paw-sitively (sorry) adorable dogs and pups accompanying their owners on vintiquing outings across the country. Check out these pooch pin-ups. And do send us photos of your hounds. Send your photos to us at email@example.com and tell us what makes them great!
Boston Terrier Minnie is a characterful 20-week-old puppy who loves lying in squishy vintage cushions on the sofa, walking on the common, entertaining customers in her owners' shop (they also own Boxer Roxy, below) and generally bowling everyone over with her cuteness.
Antiques Roadshow experts George and Sonia Archdale have a new addition to their family, Bedlington Terrier puppy Grady.
Norwich Terrier Winston lives in an antiques shop on London's Kings Road and loves nothing better than browsing for goodies.
Six-year-old Spaniel cross Ralph is a regular visitor to antiques fairs with his owner/dealer. We spotted him nosing around the stands at Sunbury Antiques Market, Kempton Racecourse.
Exploring the fair is thirsty work for George, a five-year-old Shitzu. This cheerful little chap visits Shepton Mallet twice a year. Antiques are all very well but, to be honest, the high point of the day for George is his picnic: a nice sausage.
Chihuahuas Biba and Chilibean hang out in the handbag of their owner, jewellery designer Lisa de Bidaph as she scours stalls for vintage jewellery to rework.
Welsh terrier Sailor or, if you call him by his pedigree name, Newob Shooting Star, travels wherever his owners go.
Shitzu Josie is a big fan of fashion and loves hanging out in her mum Jennifer White’s best handbag. A social butterfly, she likes to say hello with her paw and ensures she keeps her good looks with a weekly visit to her favourite spa.
Dialynne beagle Bella, five, doesn’t usually go out in public without wearing something designer– this time it’s a Mulberry sweater. Bella likes getting into bed with her owner Lucy Wharton-Partridge and watching films.
Favourite food: Cheese, custard and chicken
It's not often you come across a dog with no name. But Wilhelmine Gutbrod, owner of this boisterous nine-year old Jack Russell and founder of MR Antiques, decided that conventional pet names were nowhere near special enough for her pooch, whose father starred in a German sitcom!
Introducing H&A editor Angela's pampered pooch, Parson Jack Russell Barney, who has just returned from a spring break in Scotland. A rescue dog, his age is uncertain but he's an old gent who loves nothing better than dozing in the sun and playing with his toy pheasant. You may recognise him, as he once appeared on a cover of H&A. Favourite food: Wotsits
Meet Toby, who belongs to Jayne Soule of the Vintage & Handmade Fairs in Chipping Sodbury. He was taken in as a tiny puppy from the Bath Dogs & Cats Home and now, aged six, lives happily with two cats. He appreciates a comfy vintage armchair, crochet blanket and a cushion or two as well as a bedtime Bonio. His hobbies include sleeping, country walks, warming himself by the Aga, stealing tissues and more sleeping.
Favourite food: Bacon, cheese and chocolate (which is kept well out of his way!)
Seven-year-old rescue Doberman Sophie is a real softie and loves looking cool in her very own pair of vintage sunnies.
Favourite food: Bananas
Otti the English Pointer is four going on 40. She's rather fussy (doesn't like rain and knows when she's being given no frills biscuits) but does have a cheeky side, especially when it comes to hiding her owner Laura Holmes's slippers in her bed, and stealing bread off chickens and burying it so they can't find it.
Boxer Roxy is often to be found sitting in a Lloyd Loom chair in a corner of her owner's vintage shop in Wimbledon. She's careful around pretty china and enjoys sitting down to afternoon tea and cake.
Patriotic Winston is an old gent who loves to be in the limelight. He enjoys walks on the beach, fires, sticking his head in shopping bags to see what his owner Helen Charlton has bought home - oh, and he has a bit of a 'fetch the stick' obsession, too.
Favourite food: Schmackos
Always wearing a jaunty neckerchief or silk scarf, 15-year-old Florence travels the country on buying trips with her owner Tracey Hewlett, who sells stock at Dairy House Antiques, Shaftesbury, and The Old Pill Factory, Witney.
Weimaraner Ashe is a right softy but keeps her owners in check as queen of the household.
Always to be spotted sporting a scarf around her neck, Matilda belongs to collector and author Nicky Albrechtsen, who shares her passion for vintage handkerchiefs in the August issue of Homes & Antiques.
We would love to see pictures of your pooches! Whether you have a scruffy sheepdog or an elegant English toy terrier, send your photos to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us what makes them great.
