H&A's Alice Roberton spends a delightful day enjoying all things pretty, handmade and vintage

Last Saturday (29th June) I attended Selina Lake's Handmade & Vintage Summer Fete in the historic Market House building in Kingston Upon Thames. An author and freelance interior and lifestyle stylist (see her beautiful work in the August issue of H&A, out on 4th July), Selina is one busy lady and I have no idea how she manages to find the time to organise these fairs - this is her second - but organise them she does, and very well, too. The day was a winning combination of talented makers and traders offering up pretty one-off wares to a crowd keen to create beautiful living spaces.
I enjoyed a busy day of welcoming new and old readers to the colourful H&A stand. Carolyn Ganski, who has been finding inspiration within the pages of Homes & Antiques for the past two years, was delighted with her new subscription which came with a free Orla Kiely stationery set.
Trading next to me were Holly and Steven of Nicholas & Steele who own a shop in nearby Wimbledon. ‘We didn't want to miss out on today, so we left a note on the shop door saying we’d be here and lots of our regular customers have popped down, which has been lovely,’ said Holly.
Avid H&A reader Clare West bought this gorgeous little A&F Pears Soap bottle from Nicholas & Steele, which has been brought to life by a Victorian scrap and a piece of cotton crochet trim.
Business partners Liana Allos and Becky Price run Mango Studios in nearby Walton and were shopping for props for their ever-popular vintage themed photo shoots. They hit the jackpot on lighting stand Folly & Glee, which specialises in making original bark cloth shades.
It was lovely to bump into traders Gisela & David Barrington. ‘Today, we are just shopping and I came knowing exactly what I wanted to buy and I’ve been successful. I’m especially pleased with my embroidered brooch from Hen’s Teeth,’ said Gisela.
Artist marker Viv Sliwka, of Hen’s Teeth, makes the most charming range of goods using old cloth, paper, buttons, stamps and embroidery with each piece telling a little story.
Our very own South-East agent Jacquie Robinson was also there in her trademark pinny, multitasking as trader and fabulous tea and cake lady!

This is where you’ll find H&A selling the latest issue of the magazine, great subscription offers and other lovely wares throughout July.
