Fine and Rare Wines: Including rarities from the private cellar of Chris de Burgh, Christie's, London, 24th March

Chris de Burgh may be famous for the song Lady in Red but, when it comes to wine, these days he prefers white. Having amassed hundreds of bottles since he started collecting in the early 1980s, de Burgh has now decided to sell off a portion of his cellar – principally the reds. A total of 320 of his bottles and 84 magnums will go under the hammer at this sale at Christie’s. Highlights include a 12-bottle case of 1945 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, expected to sell for £12,000-£16,000, and a collection of 62 magnums of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, vintages 1945-2005, estimated at £70,000-£90,000. ‘Every wine I’m selling I’ve actually tasted, one way or the other, so I know what I’m missing,’ he says. ‘But I think the time has come for someone else to enjoy them.’  020 7839 9060; christies.com
