Mr Munn was explaining how he had long wondered if any of the brooches, which were designed by eminent Victorian architect William Burges, were ever made from the sketches that are now in the V&A.
One of the brooches, pictured, was in fact made and had resided in Jill's jewellery box for the past two decades. It had been inherited by her mother from her old primary school teacher about 40 years ago, and neither of them liked it very much. Gill had even been thinking of selling it at her local market for a few pounds!
Following this revelation, she instead took the brooch to Gildings Auctioneers in Market Harborough and attended a filming of the Roadshow in Birmingham to have it appraised by Geoffrey, who valued it at £10,000. It comes under the hammer at this auction of jewellery, glass, ceramics, objects d’art and books. We only wonder what it will make!
