This wonderful fair opens its doors in Devizes to a crowd of eager treasure hunters
The second Vintage Bazaar to hit Devizes this year brought out the hardiest shoppers in the area, all keen to snap up must-have finds or seek out special pieces to add to their collections. With some of the best vintage traders in the south, the stands were full of irresistible bounty from French brocantes, UK fleas and beyond. BBC Antiques Roadshow experts Marc Allum and Lisa Lloyd, who live locally, popped by to tell me how much they were enjoying their day of shopping for antique furniture and vintage clothes: ‘In addition to this great fair, Devizes has some impressive antique and vintage shops,’ Marc said.
Liz Van Hasselt, co-organiser of the Vintage Bazaar fairs, which also take place in Frome and Hartley Wintney, was wearing her much-admired French workwear coat (as seen in our September VIP feature). H&A subscriber Lizzie Heffer picked up this wonderful 1930s Mary statuette from Liz, sourced in France this summer, as a gift for a friend.
As always, it was lovely to meet stalwart readers and hear how much our newer readers have fallen for H&A. One such visitor was Sue Bradshaw from Yay Retro!, who recently discovered the magazine: ‘I can’t believe I hadn’t found it before, I just love it!’ she enthused.
Emma Sutton, who recently bought a 1950s wooden clapboard house in Cirencester has quite a collection of floral pictures. She hoped this lovely find, bought from Lois Pinnock, will look perfect in her bedroom.
1940s enthusiasts and Blitz Buddies re-enactors, Joseph and Rowan Peare-Harte, fuelled their passion for Bakelite with this gorgeous mint-green picnic set, complete with basket, and an original Pifco hairdryer to add to Joseph’s growing collection.
There were some lovely retro collectables on the Vintage At The Village stand. Look out for their fair on 17th November at Puriton Village Hall in Somerset.
