A delightful day at a family-run Devon market
Set in the glorious Assembly Rooms of South Molton, the first Vintage & Makers Market
was a delightful event with vintage offerings galore, from the kitsch and colourful to the pretty and wearable. Run by a family team headed up by Rosemary Hallett (centre right), the day was made even more successful thanks to Rosemary’s Vintage Teas
, served up by her trusty team, including daughters Gemma Cook (left) and Charlotte Barber (right), friend Lynn Hutchings (centre left) and husband Charlie (who did a sterling job of the washing up!).
Sally Parkin, owner of The Original Surfboard Company
is passionate about the heritage of British surfing and bringing ‘surf-riding’, which had its golden era in the 1950s, back to life. Sally stumbled across Vintage In The Valley
who were selling a thrilling collection of swimming costumes ‘they’re perfect for some vintage themed photo shoots we have planned over the summer,’ she said.
Devon trader Donna Flower
(right) was, as always, looking full of the joys of vintage as she sold this 1950s 'Old Stages' fabric to 4 1/2 months pregnant Leonie Harrison who plans to use it in the nursery she’s creating for her new baby.
It was lovely to meet long-time subscriber Sheila Grove from Chulmleigh, who visits South Molton’s Pannier Market weekly. ‘I was thrilled to see that Homes & Antiques was visiting the area so I thought I’d come and say hello; I’m always so inspired by the magazine,’ she smiled.
Landscape designer Sophie Dixon turned some heads as she tried on this stunning 1950s grosgrain & Nottingham lace Susan Small dress she found at The Vintage Collection stand.
Anna Houghton, who was previously a period drama costume maker for TV and film in London, now concentrates on making for the home. ‘This is the first time I’ve showcased my work at an event and it’s been a great day,’ she said.
Visitor Samantha Watts, who works across the road at shabby chic shop Daisy Park
, was thrilled with the market and bought a lovely charm necklace from jewellery designer Emma Marston of Birdy
