Some time ago I read that there was a silver cleaner to clean solid silver pieces and which containded minuscule bits of silver in it so, as silver is so soft, these minuscule bits would fill in the marks and indentations left by the daily use and by any abrassive cleaned done. Does anyone know if this cleaner is still manufactured?, if so what is the name, manufacturer or indeed where can it be bought?. Any clue will be very welcome

Dear Lourdes,

This type of cleaner doesn’t ring any bells with me, but Ian Pickford, silver expert on the Antiques Roadshow, warns against using these types of products as the silver deposits can actually destroy the patination of pieces. Instead he recommends using Silvo or Goddard’s Long Term Silver Foam.

Yes, I use Goddard's Silver Pad on all my silver items. Brings a beautiful shine and allows you to get into the intricate areas without leaving any deposit. Much easier and more pleasant to use than ordinary polish.

I used an off-brand that I got at an outlet store once and it left some residue on my tablecloths but it worked well. I'd probably go with the Goddard though. It sounds really great and the patination is important.
