New TV show brings antiques to primetime
Four dealers, in four separate rooms, each wait to see the pieces members of the public have come to sell. Each has their own area of expertise. Emma Hawkins specialises in taxidermy and curiosities; Jeff Salmon in vintage design; Andrew Lamberty in furniture; and Gordon Watson in 20th-century design.
The sellers will all be hoping to walk away with a life-changing sum of money. But to do so, they will have to decide when to sell and when to move on, as each dealer's offer stands only while they are in the room.
Something of a hybrid of Antiques Roadshow and Dragons' Den, it gives viewers the chance to find out about everything from Victorian taxidermy to pop art, with the added spectacle of discovering which contestant has the right object - and the nerve - to earn a fortune.
'I think most people start off being realistic in their expectations,' says Watson. 'But then there can be elements of greed. This has been totally intriguing for me - we have had such wonderful characters. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions.'
Four Rooms begins on Channel 4 on Tuesday 24th May at 8pm
