The Oak Sale, Bonhams, Chester, 19th January

Charming wooden objects go under the hammer at this sale. Hopeless romantics will adore this 19th-century Welsh fruitwood double love spoon (pictured), estimated at £500-£800, used as a gift for all sorts of romantic occasions.

Some believe that the expression 'to spoon', as in to court or cuddle, may well have started with Welsh love spoons.

And forget Ikea, as you can be inventive in a small space with an intriguing mid 17th-century chair-table (a chair that doubles as a table), which is estimated at £1,200-£1,800.

Other lots include a unique George II oak, cherrywood and snakewood chest on a stand, expected to fetch £5,000-£8,000, an early 17th-century oak and sycamore standing livery cupboard, £4,000-£6,000, and other beautiful pieces.
