A lovely day spent visiting Homes & Antiques northern agent Juliet Golding
The Saltaire Vintage Home & Fashion Fair is set in the grand Victoria Hall in the heart of Saltaire, a Victorian model village founded in 1851 by Sir Titus Salt to house a large textiles mill and its workers. The area’s beauty and history make it a fabulous location for a vintage fair and, coupled with some welcome sunshine, it attracted plenty of visitors.
It was lovely to visit our northern agent, Juliet Golding, who was doing a sterling job promoting Homes & Antiques spring style. Juliet is very much enjoying bringing the magazine closer to readers in the region and feedback would suggest that Homes & Antiques has a strong following in the north.
Jo Pearson, a retail buyer and card designer, subscribes to Homes & Antiques and was delighted to see the magazine at the fair. Jo was considering buying this 1950s sundress from Purple Rabbit Vintage and says she is slowly converting partner Mark Rocca into a vintage addict too.
I met Ruth Caswell from nearby Keighley when I visited Festival Of Vintage last April (Juliet Golding will be flying the flag at the festival this year) so it was great to see her again selling her wonderfully chosen and restored pieces of mid-century furniture.
I had a lovely chat with Louise and Jason Stocks-Young from West Yorkshire who run an online company called Vintage Folk which specialises in all things authentic, crafted and beautiful.
Someone else with their focus firmly on crafting is Julie Kershaw who makes pretty felted items. ‘I take old woollen blankets and knitwear and remake them into something new - I guess I’m an upcycler!’ said Julie.
Handbag designer Harriet Sanders and mum Jill were searching for old ties to use as detail on a range of clutch-bags. ‘We’ve found a few nice ties here today on The Magical Tree Vintage & Retro stand,' said Harriet. 'They have a around 1,000 more in store so we’re hoping to buy some of those too.'
There was a great mix available, both in terms of fashion and homewares. I nearly took home this 1950s tea trolley.
Homes & Antiques will be at the following fairs in April:
Saturday 27th April, 9.30am to 3pm - The Vintage Bazaar at Hartley Wintney, The Victoria Hall, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire
Saturday 27th-Sunday 28th April, 10am-5pm (both days) - Festival Of Vintage, York Racecourse, York
