Alice Roberton enjoys a rummage at the first Vintage & Handmade Jumble at a new venue
Last Saturday (15th June), the village of Box, just outside Bath, was buzzing with excitement as the much-loved Vintage & Handmade Fair brought its jumble sale to The Selwyn Hall for the first time. It was a great opportunity for regular traders (and self-confessed hoarders) to have a clear out and for visitors to pick up a fabulous bargain or two. I made time for a quick rummage and snapped up this elegant 1959 French couture magazine for £1.
Mosaic artist Emma Leith, of Silly Moo
, popped by with her two miniature wire haired dachshunds Scrabble and Pickles and was delighted to find this unusual lamp ‘I plan to mosaic the stand and make a felted lampshade to go with it for my studio, hopefully it will inspire people who come to me for workshops,’ said Emma.
The lamp was bought from trader Lucy Bloom (pictured right) who runs the Great Bedwyn Post Office Shop
near Marlborough. With the helping hands of her friend Jayne Wojtowicz the pair enjoyed the opportunity for a good clear out and a spot of shopping.
Clare Nolan, from nearby Whitley, is a vintage dealer and collector who bought this crocodile skin doctor's bag from fellow dealer Tess Smith, who trades at King Street Curios in Melksham. ‘I really regret selling one just like this a while back so I’m pleased to have found a replacement and this time I’m holding on to it!’ laughed Clare.
It was lovely to see Clare Powell, co-organiser of The Vintage Bazaar
, indulging in a spot of shopping too! Her favourite purchase was this pretty paisley quilt bought from Sue Meager
. The next Frome Vintage Bazaar will be on June 29th, and then on August 31st you’ll find H&A
at the Devises Vintage Bazaar fair selling magazines, subscriptions and other such delights.
If you're in the mood for joining us for some vintage, handmade and collecting fun then here’s where you’ll find H&A setting up shop during the rest of June, do pop by to say hello and show us what you've bought - we love a good bargain!
