Original Vintage & Handmade Christmas Fair, Chipping Sodbury
Alice Roberton gets festive at a pretty vintage fair in the Cotswolds
As the Original Vintage & Handmade Christmas Fair was highlighted in the Christmas issue of H&A, we popped along to wish readers who came a Merry Christmas.
The fair was decked out with twinkly lights, sparkling jewellery, vintage decorations and cosy textiles and the traders had made a great effort to create a festive shopping paradise. Hand-lettering artist Lucia Leyfield (above) had a wonderful array of gift ideas and treats for home decoration.
Fair regular Ali Binns and her friend Wai O’Donoghue from Bath treated themselves to some costume necklaces from Ginger Rose to add a little glamour to their Christmas party outfits.
Jemima Rose, who always comes to the fair to buy for her shop in Bristol, bought some great items from Dorothy Stiven: two English floral quilts in pristine condition and a doll's crib. ‘The early 20th-century American crib is quite possibly an apprentice piece - I’ve noticed a trend in vintage pieces from the USA recently,' she said.
Freelance features writer Nichola Owen had a pop-up stand next to me selling some vintage bits and pieces she’d collected. Nichola, who has written homes features for H&A, told me how she’s been hankering to have a go at dealing alongside many of her favourite traders. ‘It’s lovely to be here on the other side of the table!’ she said.
Ingrid Austin made the journey from Swindon to visit the fair and was very pleased to add this piece from Hellish Designs to her collection. ‘It’s marked with Marienburg, Polen but other than that there’s little to tell us about its history,’ she said.
Things were very busy on the My Fairy Furniture stand, which was selling delightful Christmas trinkets and decorations. Hayley Moore bought this ‘Putz House’, which was handmade by trader Jane Chapman using an original American template.
New subscriber Trisha Evans from Tetbury came to say how much she is looking forward to having H&A delivered to the door in 2014. She also told me about her husband’s new venture Vintassion, an online site dedicated to helping vintage sellers reach their buyers. Best of luck.
Having attended over 100 fairs in 2013, Alice and her team of Homes & Antiques agents are taking a break over Christmas but will all be back on the road in the new year. In the meantime, don’t forget to pop these dates in your diary. See you next year!
