H&A enjoys a weekday vintage shopping treat in the heart of Dorset

Vintage at the Village Hall kick-started the week with another successful fair at Blandford Forum’s Corn Exchange on Monday (24th March). With a maze of stands overflowing with spring flowers, gorgeous finds for the home, beautiful textiles and clever handmade wares, this was a brilliant way to start the week.

Sara Joiner, from nearby Poole, bought more than she’d bargained for at the fair and had to purchase a large suitcase form Joanna at English Harbour to carry all her treasures home on the bus. She also bought this textile-covered card table (possibly vintage Sanderson) from the H&A stand. ‘It will go in my summer house, which is my sanctuary and sewing room,’ she said.

Visitor Hannah Lyon has just created a large open-plan kitchen in her 1930s detached house in Bournemouth by knocking three rooms together. ‘It’s got a very fresh, spacious feel and has a colour scheme of lime green, cream and wood. These French pressed-glass cake stands from The Washerwoman will help add a finishing touch,’ she said.

Local artist Emily Stracey produces wonderful sculptural and mixed-media work and was on the hunt for containers to display her range of cards at The British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate next week. She picked up these cute boxes from fellow artist and felter Rose Hatcher.

Sam Sunshine of The Peagreen Furniture Co is someone who does display well. Her stand selling one-off soya wax candles always catches the eye. ‘Every piece is different, be it a vintage teacup, a milk jug, a pretty gravy boat or the most popular, a jelly mould,’ beamed Sam. A great idea for a mother's day gift.

This fair is a great place to treat yourself or buy a gift for someone else and there’s home-making inspiration around every corner. Beyond France’s gorgeous Hungarian linens are always worth the investment.

Sallie Read was delighted with her find: a bevel-edged upcycled mirror that may be destined for the hall of her cottage in Blandford Forum. ‘I just liked it so much I couldn’t resist,’ she said.

Dairy House Antiques partner Debbie Jeffery snapped up a copy of our fresh-off-the-press special edition Vintage Homes. ‘It’s gorgeous and is going to be great for ideas when we’re styling the shop,’ she said. Buy your own copy now from WHSmith or click here to order online. H&A will be attending Dairy House’s annual Antique & Vintage Textile Fair on Sunday 13th April - don’t miss out.
