Alice Roberton joins the treasure hunters at this vibrant west country fair

Under a sky of rolling clouds and bright sunshine, the Shepton Flea on Sunday (20th July) was a hive of activity as eagle-eyed collectors browsed the stands.

The great weather brought out a fabulous selection of traders setting up outside as well as in. The organisers have just added a last-minute date to their summer schedule - 31st August - if you'd like to see the array of antiques, vintage and collectables for yourself.

Mother and daughter team Sue and Katy Light from Wiltshire (above) love a bargain and were delighted to find this pair of director's chairs for £10 each. They will take pride of place in Katy’s courtyard garden.

Martina Lamden (right) bought this solid high-back armchair as a first upholstery project and, with the help of friend Natasha Sargent, hopes she’ll make a success of it. If you’re in need of some hands-on upcycling tips, then the H&A Guide to Upcycling is still available to buy online.

It’s always great to see pieces of furniture heading off to a new home with the whole family lending a hand!

Sarah and Colin Richards from Taunton are regular visitors to the fair. This time they bought a variety of items for the garden and indoors – the large glass jar will be perfect for cut flowers.

I loved this picnic basket full of old bears - a one-stop shop for anyone organising a teddy bears' picnic this summer.

Adding a splash of colour to proceedings were assemblage artist Lucie Smailes and retro trader Bronia Lee, who were both having a clear out. ‘I pick up vintage treasures from around the world and make them into art and it’s time for a declutter,’ said Lucie.

Meanwhile, Bronia is about to head off to Spain to teach English and is trying to whittle her life down to fit into a couple of suitcases.

These two visitors to the H&A stand were very happy to pick up a Portmeirion 'Totem' design soup dish trio. The design is back in vogue and the striking cobalt blue is a great addition to any collection.

Having visited and reported on around 25 fabulous fairs this year it’s time for a break so I’m off for a spot of wild camping with my family during August.

I couldn’t resist one last purchase though: a gorgeous little metal desk lamp brought back from Thailand by Lucie Smailes.

Wishing you all a sunny summer and see you in September when I’ll hit the road again for more exciting events.
