Question:

My husband paid £85 for this jug 12 years ago. We know it’s by Wedgwood but wonder if you can shed any further light on when it was made and who might have decorated it.
Margaret Townsend, Oxford

Answer:

This is a delightful jug, hand-painted in pink, green and blue with touches of black, which, even though it is a Wedgwood piece, is very characteristic of Scottish pottery. It could well have been decorated by the Wedgwood designers Millicent Taplin, or Alfred and Louise Powell.
A signature would add considerably to its value, but, nevertheless, I think it would make £150 if it went up for sale today.
