Green rabbits, blue rabbits, fawn rabbits, pink rabbits – over a period of nearly 50 years from the mid 1930s, SylvaC potteries, founded in Stoke-on-Trent in 1894 by William Shaw and William Copestake, turned out rabbit figurines at a rate to rival their natural breeding habits.


Collectors prefer the pre-1970s designs, finished with a matt glaze, over the glossy later output, and the green bunnies are most commonly seen. They come in all shapes and sizes, from snub-nosed bunnies and lop-eared rabbits to Harry the Hare; and from the tiniest fancies (just 5cm high) to 25cm-high colossal cottontails.
