More joy less waste
When you love collecting, it’s easy to run out of space for new additions. Perhaps you want to part ways with a once-beloved collection to make room for another, or maybe you’ve inherited items that you sadly just don’t have the room for. It’s often hard to know what to do and where to start with selling – or even taking to the charity shop – such things, especially if you’re looking for a quick-fix solution.
But before acting too hastily, take a good look at the items you’re thinking of getting rid of. As the saying goes, one person's trinket is another person's treasure and that old silverware that’s been gathering dust in the attic could turn out to be a beloved keepsake to someone else.
So, how do you weed out which items are valuable and even go on to sell these pieces for virtually no risk and minimal effort? This is where Vintage Cash Cow comes in.
Box it, send it, sell it!
Vintage Cash Cow is designed to make selling your old antiques as fuss-free as possible in a few easy-to-follow steps:
1) All you have to do is order a free postage pack. This will contain your free postage labels and a handy guide on how to fill your box for maximum value.
2) While you wait for your postage pack to arrive, fill a suitable old box with your items and don’t worry if you find that any items are broken, tangled or have pieces missing, they may still be valuable. If your product is modern, electrical or particularly fragile, it might not be their cup of tea, but you can browse the definitive list of items that aren’t accepted, here.
3) Place your box on bathroom scales to ensure it weighs under 30kg. Then seal it, attach your free postage label, and take it to your local post office or request a free home collection. Easy peasy.
4) An expert valuer will review your box then you’ll be offered a fair price for everything within three working days. At this point, you can accept their offer, and you’ll receive the money in your account within 24 hours. Decline the offer, and your items will be safely returned for free. Or, ponder your decision for up to 28 days.
Clear out and cash in
Vintage Cash Cow accepts a wide range of antiques, including medals and militaria, watches, writing instruments and jewellery. As with most antiques, condition, age and authenticity make a big difference, so they always request that you speak to them first to find out if any specific antiques are worth sending. Jewellery is always worth sending in – often people don’t realise their old necklaces, bracelets or brooches have gold, silver or rare gems in them and this, of course, is always a pleasant surprise. Antony Charman, co-founder of Vintage Cash Cow, has seen some incredible items come through the door over the years. ‘Somebody once sent us a gorgeous Rawlins Crown - a super-rare coin worth around £100,000. It was a great bit of history,’ he says.
In terms of the minimum and maximum amount you can make, it really depends on the antiques you send in. It's advisable to collect as many different items as possible to maximise your offer. Most offers range from £15-£50, but a box recently sent by a customer was bought for £17,000! The best part of the service is that you can use it again and again, so the amount of money you can make is endless.
