The Decorative Living Fair, Eridge Park, Kent

The sun shone for visitors, exhibitors and the H&A team as everyone enjoyed a wonderful day of decorative delights

The Decorative Living Fair hosts a selection of hand-picked exhibitors trading vintage, antique and decorative homewares in a delightful country-house setting, and with its breath-taking stands and glorious views, it’s hard to know which way to look. H&A was proud to sponsor this year’s event and our stand buzzed all day long with readers coming to say hello and new readers keen to sign up to our great subscription offer. Vintage designer, Sarah Moore, was in prime position to enjoy the glorious setting.

Despite a busy day, H&A editor Angela Linforth found time to feed her passion for lustreware and picked up a 1940s sugar bowl along with a characterful ‘deer’ jug.

Our stylist Kiera Buckley-Jones was on hand and pulled some great styling tricks out of her magic box to make sure the stand looked utterly gorgeous and summery.

H&A hosted an array of topical talks on ‘The Joy of Upcycling’ with Angela Linforth, ‘Pots of Style’ with Gardens Illustrated editor Juliet Roberts, ‘Style Me Vintage’ with vintage guru Naomi Thompson and ‘Summer Styling’ with the ‘Pretty Pastel Style’ author, Selina Lake. We’ll be at Selina Lake’s Handmade & Vintage Summer Fete in Kingston-On-Thames on June 29th, so do look out for us.

Sally Barton (right) works from home as a maker and artist and makes up for Kate Forman. ‘I make her lavender hearts, lampshades, laundry bags and more, and just love working with her fabrics,’ she said. She and her sister Judy Crane enjoyed a very successful day’s shopping and topped it off by both taking out a subscription to Homes & Antiques.

Chloe Troutt had travelled from Buckinghamshire especially for the fair and was delighted to pick up this old piano stool from The Washerwoman as an upcycling project. ‘I plan to re-upholster and paint it, then re-purpose it as a dressing-table stool,’ said Chloe.

Alle Pflaumer from Medway in Kent was visiting the fair for the first time and snapped up these cushions from the H&A stand. ‘I’m not sure where I’ll use them but I’m sure as soon as I get home they’ll find a place!’ she laughed.

I just loved the story behind the materials used by first time exhibitor Sarah Jane Murray (pictured right), of Home Front Vintage, who enjoyed a hugely successful day selling her WW2 silk escape map cushions. Debra Redout bought a cushion depicting a map of Sicily. ‘I love the history of them and this cushion will also remind me of my recent happy holiday to the island,’ she said.

Every year one exhibitor is awarded ‘Best Dressed Stand’ and this year, it was Liza Barnes of Nutley Antiques. The competition was very stiff, with Home Front Vintage, Paul Drewett and The Old Haberdashery very much in the running – but the decision was ultimately up to Eridge Park owner, The Marchioness of Abergavenny. ‘The overall standard this year was amazing so it was a very hard decision for the Marchioness to make,’ said fair organiser Caroline Zoob.
